Sport fishing Tournaments in Quepos by Marina Pez Vela

The Pelagic Rock Star Offshore Tournament took place January 11-13th, the first tournament of the new year. The event combined fishing, music and parties for a fun event in which 45 teams competed for over $300,000 in prizes. They don’t follow international angling guidelines, and these “jungle rules” mean the person who catches the fish can hand rod to someone else to fight the fish! The Marina Pez Vela now features a Pelagic Gear Shop where you can purchase their iconic clothing and equipment.

The Quepos Billfish Cup takes place March 14-17th and has $100,000 in prizes on the line for participants. The three-day event is part of a series of tournaments in Central America, and it adheres to the international angling rules. This means the angler who catches the fish needs to fight it as well.

April 12-14th is The Marina Pez Vela Open, which also follows angling rules and is expected to have large cash prizes for its international participants.

The Offshore World Championship, which is by invitation only, hosts teams from around the world in Quepos, considered the billfish capital of the world by many. This one takes place 16th-20th of April, an exciting multicultural event where people converge for friendly competition and sharing different techniques and styles.
